serial number lookup?

sorry if this has been listed before. But i have a Mossberg 640KD that belonged to my wifes dad, and im trying to find info on the guns age and such. Any help would be appreciated.

Try calling the manufacturer. They should have a service where they can look up when it was manufactured, who it was sold to, etc.
