Springs ??

Does any one know if ther is a device(meter,gage) that can tell me the spring rate(Lbs.) for a given coil spring. i.e. hammer,recoil,fireing pin spring?

Dennis,

Brownells sells a 1911 recoil spring tester that should work for some of the springs you're interested. Here is the page for it

As expensive as it is, I searched the internet for pull scales to make my own and I don't think you could build one for the price Brownells charges. As for your smaller springs, you might be better off just keeping some replacements on hand.
