I would like to hear from anyone with experience with the above sights, offered on the police shotguns--particularly as compared with Shotgun Technologies' Trak-Loc units. I am also interested in opinions on the 870 Express HD as a base weapon. (Had the NRA not cancelled its exhibition hall I would already have handled one...)

I doubt that you'd go wrong using an 870 as a base gun, or even leaving it stock. My department, and most around, use 870's. The majority of cops abuse the guns more than any of us would like to see & they still hold up quite nicely.
As for the sights, I haven't gotten to shoot using the new factory "ghost ring". I've pointed in using an 870 with them. I wasn't thrilled as they have an elevated & protected brass bead up front rather than a solid post. This makes it a bit more difficult to get the sight picture I like with slugs at distance. I originally had the Trac-Lock sights on my 870. They are very stout. Two problems that I am aware of with them- #1 Have the front sight post soldered on, rather than glued. In my shotgun class at Gunsite, every one that was glued on ended up coming off during the week; #2 I found that the rear sight lacked enough adjustment. For most this is not an issue, but for me it was. I've gone with the MMC rear sight. Check 6, Erick |
