Any one own a Ruger 77/44
Interested in opinions and if any one has shot 44 specials in one?
I was at a gun show in INDY last weekend and had the chance to pick one up and the gun felt good. Good stock length and solid built. The bolt was not in the gun so I was curious about the trigger. Being a 44 fan I have been looking for a nice 44 rifle of a more modern type than the Marling lever action that I already own. I wont hunt with it, mostly plinking. Thanks http://www.ruger.com/products/rotary...744/index.html |

I own two. One I have had an integral suppressor installed. (SO fun, SO quiet.)
The trigger from the factory is your typical lawyer trigger, but they make drop-in replacements that improve it significantly. They often have trouble with free-floating the barrels so you might need to take a dremel to the stock. This improves accuracy significantly. Many people complain about accuracy in the 77/44 but I have found that this is a function of ammunition. Feed it some good handloads/factory ammo and accuracy is quite good for a pistol caliber rifle.

i had one between the fact it didnt shoot that well and to me i couldnt see a 44 in a slow bolt gun where there were so many cool leverguns chambered in it. So out the door it went.

I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with one. But my longest shot ever on a whitetail was only like 60 yds and our deer aren't much over 110-120 pounds.

I think you guys missed my meaning,,,,,
![]() The reason I said I wont hunt with it is that I,,,,, don't ,,,,,,, hunt. ![]() I have no problem with people that do but I am married (5 years)to a woman (a wonderful woman) that has a problem with hunting. You cant have everything, she likes guns and is a very good shot, but not hunting, its that simple. I want the gun because I shoot a lot of 44 and it looked like a fun gun. In fact I have a problem with 44"s,,,, that is, I have a very hard time passing up a gun in 44 that I don't own. Its one reason I have so many. 9 wheel guns and two lever actions. What kind of accuracy do you guys get at 100 yards? |

P.S. Any one shot 44 specials through it?
And thanks for the info on the Ruger trigger, I had one of the ruger 44 mag deerstalker carbine Rifles built in the 80's and did take a very nice 10 point buck with it at 75 yards. But I had problems with the guns reliability. I had feeding problems with it. Its trigger was very poor. |

I have a video of it.
Ruger 77/44. Tom Denall Silent Destroyer. 44 mag. Here is a high-res photo of it without the tube sock I made for the tube. 7744SDNoSock.jpg
