What can your handgun do against a tank (pic)

Hi-res

We can point people to the article on the topic (i.e. that handguns are useful)...or we can turn it around and explain that handguns are for _personal_ protection, while serious military weapons are for tyranny response.

Need opinion on alternative phrasing: "People with mere handguns can't stop tyranny. That's why the 2nd Amendment includes military weapons." More to the point?

Bonus Image: The right to keep and bear arms is universal.

Hi-res

Oleg, I've gotta say, the toad is a classic! What happened, did you find him (?) at the range?

runt_of_the_litter found him while we were out shooting. We couldn't get any ear muffs or safety goggles to fit him , though.

I have an idea

When I saw the title of the thread, the first image in my head was of a field of people with pistols in their hands......

Heh.

It's not the tank that a pistol can hurt; it's the soft, crunchy filling.

Something tickles my brain about a Swedish penchant for taking out tanks with sniper fire: First, one shoots any of the exposed crew. Then you go after the optics and viewing blocks. Admittedly, the tank is not "destroyed", but it has been rendered combat ineffective.

Reminds me of Dan Rather's "down-home" witticism:

a 'still' photo from 'Private Ryan' comes to mind, where the character that Tom Hanks plays, mortally wounded, takes on the Nazi tank with his .45 before meeting his Maker.

Movies? "Kelly's heroes" comes to mind, where the character played by Donald Sutherland (?) loosened his P08 in the holster before walking up to a German tank...

Well, drat. Here I was, expecting a review of the .224 BOZ, and instead find Oleg's usual fine art.

So, that frog isn't going to be boiled slowly then?

Tamara has it right....a handgun can be useful against a tank. The tank commander has to stop and come out of the hatch sometime...to get gas, to go answer the call of nature, to go grocery shopping.

ya know.. as much as I keep hearing about "they gots to get out to pee sometime".. I gotta wonder -- don't they at least got some kinda baggie in there, for just that reason? I'd not care to pop the hatch if I thought I'd get shot at for my trouble.. and I'm presuming all the tank crews even these days have the necessary...ah..... equipment to make it less of a bother to improvise in cramped confines.

Any tanker jocks here?

I'm not a tanker jock, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I understand that one of the more popular features about the M-60 MBT was the bottom escape hatch, which was often used as a field expedient latrine. The M1 Abrams has no such hatch, and you have to leave the tank to go potty. I'm not sure about the whole bag idea, though.
