great quote from a gun counter customer!

While waiting for my number to be called at Cabela's gun counter today, I saw a young lady with a couple little tag-a-longs in stroller, and afoot. As she looked through the handgun cases one of the little munchkins said" Look at this one mommy". She looked down at her precious little one, and sad "No Baby, Mama needs a fourty five". I couldn't help but bust out laughing, and when she gave me a big smile in acknowledgement of my laugh I told her that was the best thing I have ever heard at a gun counter.
Her husband, standing behind me then replied " I taught her to shoot with a 45, and if you can shoot it well you can shoot anything you pick up!"
My hat's off to him, and a big smile to her!!!

BTW, later I heard someone saying " Sir, I found it" I didn't pay much attention at first thinking it was a customer talking to an employee. After the second time I looked over to see her looking at me from the purchase line where you fill out the paper work.. " I found my 45!!!"

That's a great story. I'm glad I'm not the only one who let's his wife pick the caliber she wants, and didn't assume she could only shoot small caliber pistols. She learned she prefered .40 over 9mm, and sadly she dislikes all 1911s.

This is a great story, and unfortunately reminds me of how I scared my wife away from handguns. I had just bought a new .45 and cool little old Jennings .22, both handguns. Being new to handguns I was very eager to shoot them both and raced to the (then) closest range I knew of which happed to be a small indoor range at the local Bass Pro Shop. Due to some asinine line of reasoning based on "ricochet factor" the BPS does not allow individuals to shoot .22 caliber handguns in their indoor range. I didn't think much of it as I was happy to go blast away with my new 45. So we go into this crappy metal-walled echo chamber of an excuse for an indoor range... Thunderous vibration/echo off the walls of this little hellhole. The wife said she could feel it in her teeth when she shot the 45, and so could I. Poor girl didn't shoot again for six months after that until I got a new Ruger 9mm. Moral of story: Start small when introducing handguns to women... or anyone new to hanguns for that matter...

I love it.

Years back I had my wife out shooting, she took my Walker Bulldog 44 special and put 5 rounds in a tight group. Better than I ever did with it.

You have to admire that, a good up bringing and a inherent skill.

She can out thumb wrestle me as well (speed and skill beat out brute muscle all day long).

I always acknowledge that. Too many men put women down when they are better, I encourage it and always let her know I am proud of her.

Same should be true for your daughters.

It's come a long way !! In the old days a common comment was that women have a delicate nervous sytem and shouldn't shoot anything more than a 22 rf

I thought of that every time I watched a 5'2" girl shoot a 44 mag in silhouette matches - and do as well as the average guy !

MY WIFE bought her own K22 6", her own M631 4" 32MAG, and her own USFA 5 1/2" 44SPL. She can pick the buttons off your shirt at 50 yards with any of the three like nobodies business too.
It is nearly a full time job for YEST to keep her in shootin' ammo !!

It's always fun to get the wife involved.

My wife was instrumental in getting (essentially 100% responsible for) the .327 Blackhawk we have.

Yesterday, I came home with a .327 GP100 (only available in Stainless). Rather than any guff about the cartridge, another revolver, or anything else.... I got: "I like it. It's pretty. But it needs some pretty grips."

(It was unspoken, but she thinks it needs some Rosewood. ...I might see about some pepper laminate stocks, though.)

We recently came back from a trip downstate, we live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and going downstate is a long drive for us so we don't do it often, and while down there I went to a Cabela's. The wife has recently taken a shine to my Smith 66-1 357 Mag revolver and decided that I needed to buy one for her. She likes carrying her 38, but wanted a "big dog" for carrying at camp due to wolves.

Couldn't find a Smith but they had a nice Taurus Model M66 in stainless with wood grips. Sent her a picture as she was shopping with the ladies and she said she liked it. It had nice wood grips which are a little smaller than the pachmayr on mine and she absolutely loves it, both shooting and carrying at camp. On the way to the checkout, a Beretta 92FS Compact happened to jump in my cart as well and I now have a new carry piece for "special" occasions.

That sounds believable.

I was in one of those stores buying a Ruger RedHawk. While they were ringing it up, I picked it up in front of two LEOs, in N. Vegas, and I said, "This is a 44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the World!"

I stuffed it in my pocket and left.

My wife got a good laugh out of that. Keep in mind:

She called me from her trip to Wisconsin last Sunday to tell me "I just got to shoot an AK-47 (it was a 7.62 underfolder, I think Polish)! I LOVE it! And it's so easy to field strip!" Now guess what's the next toy on the gun list?
Yesterday our local gun shop's owner let her shoot his Reising M50 submachine gun. She enjoyed that even more, enough that a Class III submachine gun is now on the toy list for 2012.

My wife started with a 45. I took her to an indoor range. Initially, she flinched everytime someone let off a round, as this was her 1st time indoors. Midway thru our time there, she was shooting that 45 better than I was. I was really proud of her.
