Jerry Miculek grips on a square butt K frame
I am thinking about purchasing a set of Jerry Miculek grips for my square butt K frame. I've been told that the front of the square butt actually sticks through the front of the grip. Does anyone have a close up photo of how this looks? Is it annoying to shoot? What are the opinions of those who shoot them like this.
Thanks |

I don't notice it at all. On the positive side, you can get to the mainspring strain screw without removing the grips.

Jerry Miculek grips on a square butt K frame
This is where I was looking to make a purchase. However they informed me that the Square butt frame would stick through the front of the grip on the K frame. Thats the reason I was looking to find someone who had a picture of one installed and talk to them before I made the purchase. Anyone else out there who could help with a picture?
Thanks http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/revptmicgrip.htm |

Ok, I said I was going to order a set of the grips Monday but I haven’t had time until this afternoon.
And man was I lucky that I waited. I called the number with from the web site listed below and a very nice man answered the phone and I asked if this was the Bang Incorporated. He said “Yes, normally my wife takes care of the order business but I was setting here at the phone and answered.” He then took my information and address and at the end I asked "Are you associated with Jerry Miculek, I see his name all over your ads." “Well yes,,, that’s me.” And as soon as I heard that I recognized his voice. Folks I tell you this,,,,,, that made my night, the man is my gun idol. And to find out, at least over the phone that he is also a very nice man just adds to my opinion of him. I asked and he agreed to sign the inside of the grips, initials since there was not enough room. We ended up talking for about an hour and I asked him several questions and he was nice enough to answer my questions. Ok I admit I was a little over whelmed but that’s just me. The last thing he said was he would personally pick out a nice dark set (which was what I asked for) and get them out in the next couple of days. This has been one of my better days this week. http://www.bang-inc.com/store/index....&products_id=3 |

Jerry Miculek, according to everything credible I have ever heard or read, is one of the nicest guys you would ever hope to meet.

I've talked with Jerry a few times at the S&W Steel Nationals here in Florida. He's a great guy and always seems to have time to talk to normal guys like me.
Last year, he looked over my 327PC and ammo and gave me some excellent advice on what I was doing wrong. I'll be shooting the gun again this year and should do better after following his advice. ![]() |

Ozzieman, you quoted Jerry as saying "normally my wife takes care of business orders...". Just a point of interest, Jerry's wife is Kay Clark Miculek. Kay is also a top-level USPSA competition shooter and has won multiple national championships.
Her father was the late Jim Clark Sr., a national bullseye champion and the founder of Clark Custom. Kay's brother Jim Clark Jr. is a very fine competitive shooter, and Jerry and Kay's daughter is also active in USPSA competition. Kay is one of the founders/instructors of the "Babes with Bullets" training camps to encourage and develop more women shooting competitors. As others have said, Jerry and Kay are two of the finest and nicest people you will meet anywhere. The whole family are great ambassadors for the shooting sports. |

That was quick
Showed up today and I am very happy.
The fit is good. Very tight to the gun and the attachment is from the bottom with an anvil that clips on to the pin at the bottom of the grip. A screw holds the grip on like on a Ruger. Good design. The finish is very very good. Again like all photos taken on my bench if you see little lines that might look like scratches, I assure you there were none. I had once again a cat that is as interested in them as I was. Cat hair. Comments on the design. They will work better for people with large hands of bigger build. They work very well with my short stubby fat fingers. I don’t know for little fingers. My wife tried them and there just too big, then again any N frame is too big for her. At first what I didn’t like was that they raised the gun up in the hand. A good ½ inches, maybe a little more. It felt odd grabbing the hammer for single action. But that changed quickly once I pulled the trigger. It doses a very good job aligning the index finger to the barrel. For me with standard S&W or Pachmayr’s my hand rides higher and the angle of my index finger on the barrel is not optimum alignment to the barrel. With these it is. Don’t know when I will have a chance to shoot it since my neighborhood does not appreciate shooting. You know YARD NAZI’s. But I will let you know soon. Jerry Miculek grips on a square butt K frame
Great looking grips. I just hate I couldn't find someone with a picture of a set of these grips on a square butt K frame. I finally got frustrated Sat. and went to a gun show. I bought a combat target grip and have decided to work on it and get it to my liking. Thanks

Ozzieman, nice grips and a nice revolver as well. The grips really work well for DA shooting. I doubt Jerry ever manually cocks a revolver except in testing ammo, maybe not even then.
I've known people to say the grips should be checkered. Jerry likes the grips smooth so he can adjust the shooting grip during the interval from the holster to shooting position. He calls it "squirming the gun". Excluding reaction time the interval from holster to first shot on a maximum speed draw is well under a second. It's hard to believe Jerry is making minute adjustments to the grip in such a short interval but he does. He said even if the initial grip on the gun in the holster isn't just right he can squirm the gun and correct the grip by the time the shot breaks. He also said of the grips, "smooth does not mean slippery" which I think is why he likes wood grips. Hard synthetic is slippery while soft synthetic has a tacky surface, making it harder to adjust the grip quickly. Jerry probably explained this to you during your phone conversation, I thought others might find it interesting. Good photos by the way, nice and sharp. Classy of Jerry to personally autograph the grip package for you. |

On photo DCS 0283 the marking on the top (right side of the photo) inside also has his initials. Just didn’t show up well in the lighting I had. I have been playing with the gun and snap caps this afternoon and one other thing I am noticing. Most grips that I have tried on the N frames that I have or have owned where the grip makes contact with the center of the palm there normally round. His has a flatness that again felt slightly odd at first then I got to like. David your comment about his “squirming the gun” makes a lot of sense once you hold one. This would be much easier with the flatness and very constant diameter. Good point. I am also sure your right about single action. It’s not that it’s that difficult to single action, it just take me some extra concentration that I get it each time. And this is only because I am not used to the gun being that much higher in the hand and requiring a little more reach. For now that issue is more of a comment than a complaint. What I really like about them so far is the way the index finger makes contact with the trigger. I can now understand how he got those 6 shots reload and 6 more under 3 seconds. For me it made the trigger pull more straight, pulling straight back instead of with the hand higher on the gun and more angle to the trigger, pulling back and slightly upward when using the Pachmayr’s. Don’t know, and won’t know until I put a couple of hundred rounds through the Thunder Chicken (as a friend calls it) then I will know if I like them as much as I do now. |

A little before the Miculek grips came out, or came to my attention, I had altered some Hogues that I got on their aucon site to fit my hand and stippled them. They are in shape very close to the Miculek grips and I couldn't be more happy with the results.

Update on the grips.
I haven’t fired the gun yet because the grips were incorrect. If you look at the original photos the rear upper end of the grips didn’t match the line if the gun. Well to make a long story short, I contacted them and sent a photo asking if the fit looked correct. The package was clearly marked for a round but N frame. Within an hour of my sending out my e mail to them I got a return saying that they looked like they were for a K frame and that a new set was on the way. I got them early this week and a free return package to return the incorrect grips. They feel better and fit the gun better. I was surprised that a K frame grip would even go on an N frame much less feel like it fits. Never had a K frame so I don’t know much about them. Anyway, one more proof what a nice group of people they are to work with. If the weather says as it is I will be shooting it today. Last edited by Ozzieman; October 1, 2016 at 06:19 PM. |
