what would happen if.....
what if America and mexico made a trade, we swap countries with them, they can have America and everything in it, and we will take mexico, everybody moves. it wouldnt take 10 years before they would run thier new country into the ground while we will have turned mexico into a prosperous country and a world power. they would be making a run for the border, wanting to get back into mexico. am i right or am i wrong?

The Mexicans don't want the territory nor the responsibility. They want the benefits, the freebies and spin offs of America's society.
If we all packed up and moved to Darfur, they'd follow us. Mexico's history shows they can't make it on their own. |

I don't think Mexico has nearly the natural resources that allowed Americans to amass such wealth in the first place. Our country is unusually blessed with tremendous amounts of rich farmland, forest, game animals, minerals and natural power sources. There's no place like it on earth.

Handy, Handy, Handy...
It's the American work ethic that has brought us this far. From puritan thrift and cottage industries to the world power we are today, Americans are known for their hard work and ingenuity. Not to mention capitalism.... ![]() There ya go, Spiff... ![]() |

Jammer, that's what I like to see........a liberal Seattle-ite dreamer that rushes to the defense of any group that is attacked (except his own, of course), regardless of their crimes.
Please just stop talking. Don't make me vomit again. * To everyone reading this, Jammer is the lovely American who fully supports - in thought, word, and deed - illegal immigration into this great land. |

Quote:
It is not bigotry when someone offers rational reasons for intolerance. Jews are not bigots for being intolerant of Nazis. It is not bigotry to express intolerance for the legal, political, and economic consequences of illegal immigration. It is also not bigotry to cite facts such as the relative economic success of two countries. That is know as discussion or debate. If you want to identify bigotry, look for statements against illegal immigrants based SOLELY on the fact that they may have different skin color or speak a different language. GC,
"Bigotry", in this context, is the not so subtle suggestion that Mexicans, as a people, are not capable of creating a good economy if given the same environment as whatever Snoopy is calling "Americans". I don't see what illegal aliens (who seem to have a wonderful work ethic) have to do with the assertions in the first post. |

I can give an example in history for the origional post. Cyprus was a prosperous island country that had two peoples on it that had two exactly diferent cultures, languages and religions. The Turkish Cypriots were, for the most part, laborers and the Greek Cypriots owned the best resorts and property on the beaches. All of the best beaches were on the North side of the island with the big hotels and most of the buisiness (not to mention the airport and the major, busy harbours).
Turkey comes and invades and occupies the one third of the island that has most of the wealth and income. almost all of the Turkish Cypriots move to that part of the island and the Greek Cypriots were forced to leave their expensive hotels, all their property and possesions, and the majority of the islands buisinesses. The Greeks had to build everything all over again and the Turks had almost all of the possesions and the resorts. Ten years later and the occupied side is like a third world nation and the Greeks have made new beaches and resorts on their side. Thirty years later and the Greek side is one of the most prosperous, per capita nations in Europe and a great resort destination and offshore base for many buisinesses. The Turkish occupied side is like a third world nation with ramant unemployment, resort hotels that are now ruins and now has an immigration problem made up of uneducated, unethical Turks from Turkey. Now, the Turkish Cypriots want thing back the way they were thirty two years ago and want to live on the Greek side. Wouldn't happen here, but at least there is some justification to the origional post. 9mmsnoopy, I think you are right. |

Handy,
I did not analyze, praise, or condemn the gist of the posts in this thread, but I was disappointed by JammerSix's rebuttal. I know that JammerSix is articulate enough to argue pursuasively against offensive suggestions through reasoning and force of logic and without loosely using disparaging words. All I did was point out that JammerSix had been casual in his use of the word bigotry. If precise, rich, and evocative words such as bigotry and racism are used too casually, they will lose their power and meaning. |

I agree. The phrase - as usual - was played like a trump card, designed to paralyze conversation. Considering the source and his past posts, I wasn't surprised to see it.
Cut him and he'd bleed red, white, and green. |
