One in the chamber?

Do you keep one in the chamber in your CC or home defense gun?

Of course. It may be needed at a moment's notice, so it's kept ready.

Although the question in the thread below concerned LEO's, the arguments presented apply to almost everyone carrying a pistol for defense: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...threadid=81622

Absolutely; Springfield TRP (1911A1 type) in Condition One. When you need a self-defense weapon, you need it very quickly!

I don't, but maybe I should.

The problem I have is I haven't found a good IWB holster for my Glock 23 and feel uncomfortable with one in the pipe while carrying Mexican style.

RWK What do you mean condition one? Is there more terminology that I am missing?

rock_jock I carry the 23. I use a kramer. Its good IMO. But then again, it is my first holster. There is also a "conceal carry" special magazine on the shelves right now. Its $9, but it is 95%+ dedicated toward just CC. Has over 25 holster rig tests-for specific guns too, gun tests for CC, etc, etc.

May I reccommend a good IWB, the High Noon "Hideaway?"

http://www.highnoonholsters.com

It's available with either a metal clip or a pair of leather belt loops; mine's the metal clip. The leather's rough side out, which I prefer as it keeps an IWB from shifting around as you move. It's well made, reasonably priced, and comfortable (for me at least). Available for a slew of guns including your Glock.

The Hideaway holds the gun with the barrel straight up and down. If you prefer a forward tilt, the "Down Under" model is similar but slanted.

always...without it you have nothing more than a paperweight. this is a debate that my wife and i have had quite a few times and that is to carry with one in the pipe or not. she tends not to keep one chambered, i remind her that if someone jumps her she's not going to have time to rack the slide and chamber one. she's practicing an israeli style draw, which is draw-n-rack in one motion...not an easy thing to do at first.

Yes. Although I can manipulate the slide quickly as needed, there are scenarious when ever that small amount of time is a liability.

All my guns are considered to be loaded - all the time. No matter what.

Always - the only time I have a magazine in the handgun and not one in the chamber is if I've just seated the magazine and am about to rack the slide.

If I was a smart aleck I would say "Andy only lets me carry one in my pocket"

Condition one is "cocked and locked" thats a round in the chamber with the gun cocked and the safty on.

You see this with 1911's.

Is this a trick question?

As they say, the best gun for self defense is the one you have with you, and in the same vein, the best place for that self defense bullet to be is under the hammer.

Gun's not much use with out a bullet in it.

Heck, I refuse to even own a gun with a safety on it - just one more thing to have to remember in a SHTF situation. All of our SD guns are double action, round up the snout, pull the trigger and they will ALWAYS go bang at least once.

Yes. And if you are looking for an easy IWB holster. Go out and buy a cheap ole' nylon one. I carry in a nylon all the time and have no problems. I also use a Galco Royal Gaurd and a Fobus.

Thanks for the link to the highnoonholster website. Looks like good stuff price well.
