Glocks, one in chamber or not?

How do most of you guys carry your Glocks. One in the chamber ready to go or do you leave it empty? Please give your reasons. Thanks.

I carry one in the chamber because it was designed to be carried that way.

I do not own a Glock, but have shot one or two. If this gun is for concealed carry/personal protection it SHOULD be carried with a round chambered.

If you are not comfortable carrying this way, maybe you should think about a revolver or DA/SA psitol.

I would never carry a gun without it being ready to go when I need it.

I carry a loaded firearm, ready for use in self defense...Not a cool unloaded gun-shaped weight in my holster with an empty chamber.

If you love Glock but still feel uncomfortable about one carried in the chamber? Then carry without one in the chamber until you've seen that the gun will not go "bang" until YOU pull the trigger, or YOU negligently put the gun in a holster without first looking at what is in the way and might get snagged on the trigger.

Millions carry with one loaded in the chamber all the time around the world; that should not be your worry. Your worry is how YOU will "obey" one of THEE most important firearms safety rules, or not: Keep your finger OFF the trigger AT ALL TIMES, until directly on target and ready to shoot. <-- THAT is what's most important, even when you have 50 manual safety's on your gun!

One who's uncomfortable with a round chambered, is one who simply doesn't have enough training to know he/she'll keep their finger off the trigger at all times until on target; one who has a bad holster which doesn't cover the trigger; one who not-so-smartly carries their gun WITHOUT a holster to begin with; or simply a person who's been fed too much anti-Glock propaganda, thinking Glocks fire by themselves, at will, any time of the day.

I consider those with gun safetys, or those who think not having a round in the chamber is good, to those that put their cars in park every time they stop at a red light, because they're not confident enough in themselves to think they can keep their foot on the brake pedal at all times until the light turns green.

That's only to carry (one in the pipe) as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps the better question would be why WOULDN'T you carry a Glock with one in the chamber? If you feel that the gun isn't safe, you shouldn't own it. I had 0 issues carrying my Glock (or any of my other non-manual safety pistols) with a round chambered. The gun is perfectly safe as long as you are.

Agree 100%. But the fact is, people have a misperception that Glocks are inherently less safe when carried in condition 1. I think it was one of those internet rumors that snowballed into a massive avalanche which is still rolling.

I'm pretty sure Glocks actually go through 3 safety operations when deliberately pulling the trigger before it will go off.

And the carrying with round in chamber or not is the deadest horse in all of the forums.

As for my answer, I carry with one in the chamber. I only carry a Glock, but it would be the same with any other gun.

I don't carry a Glock, but anything I do carry will be fully loaded with a round in the chamber. IMO I need to be able to quickly deploy with one hand any sidearm I carry for self defense. I won't count on having two hands available in an emergency so I can rack the slide.

BTW my choice is a 1911 carried in condition 1.

Glock 20, always one in the chamber. No logical reason not to carry a round chambered. The pistol was designed to be carried with a round in the chamber and, for anyone competent enough to carry a handgun in the first place, it is perfectly safe doing so.

Not carrying a round in the chamber is idiot with any self defense weapon. The Glock is no different. Keep your finger off of the trigger and it will not go off; same as a revolver.

By the time you cycle a round in a SD situation, you will be DEAD!!!! Keep a round in the chamber at all times when carrying.

Won't do you much good if it ain't loaded, including a live round in the chamber.

Always one in the pipe. Always. Racking the slide is intimidating but it also gives away your position. Surprise is your friend.

You must always have your gun loaded one in the chamber for self defense carry and always practice removing safety when you pull your gun out of the holster if there is a safety. On emergency situation this should all come to natural reflexes. If you dont feel comfortable carry a baseball bat.

I occasionally carry a Glock 22 and always have it cocked and locked. In a good holster, you have nothing to worry about.

Gives away your position? This is for an SD situation, not a ambush patrol.

You're probably talking about while at home, but the topic is about carrying outside.

I carry a Glock 22 on duty and a Glock 27 while off. Both have one in the chamber all the time. In a self defense situation racking the slide takes too long.

Howdy folks. Newbie here. I was just reading this, and this particular reply has me laughing so hard I can't quit. I'm picturing myself now creeping down the street, running from bush to bush, etc, just to go home!

I don't own a Glock (yet), but I have an M&P compact, and yes, I carry one in the chamber at all times. That's what the design is for. I found out in an NRA class one time that I couldn't draw, rack and be ready to fire before someone was on me from 25 feet away if they were running at me. I will never carry without one in the chamber.

Unless you want to take the time to draw it, and rack it, then don't carry it unloaded. Plus if you ever have to use it, it would get whoever's attention you would be drawing it for. It's just a better idea to carry with one in the hole and safety on. If you get in the habit of leaving one in the chamber, the assumption that if you picked the gun up that it would be loaded is true. coming from the direction of treating every gun as if it were loaded anyways. If you have little kids around that could find it or whatever you might wanna take my advice rather lightly i guess.

I consider my glock to be part of a system. Glock, holster, and me. I wouldn't consider keeping a glock around outside of a holster that covers the trigger. By the same token, I wouldn't consider keeping a glock around that wasn't chamber-loaded.

Always chamber-loaded. Always trigger covered with a holster.
