I hope this doesn't come off as snide, just realistic.

This one is only available screen resolution. After I move, got to get a higher resolution digicam (Canon D30 looks good as it will take my EF lenses). My other high-res posters are either film scans or composites.

While at it, here's one for Makarov fans: http://www.a-human-right.com/pistols/makarov.jpg

Oleg,

I printed copies of this for my daughter, and my daughters-in-law.

Thanks for a great piece of work!

How 'bout one of the 'traditional' items?

Hey, Oleg!

How about, on the left, an old-style hat with big ol' hat-pin, maybe a clutch of keys and a steak knife. All those goofy and ineffective things people have advised women to use against the monsters?

=========================================================

There was a rapist in the Charlotte, NC area last summer. Used to come in through the window in the middle of the night.

I say "used to," because a young woman put him out of her misery with a .357 late one night as he came in through the bedroom window.

I like it, but I think I can tell you what the Ms. board would say. I bet you know too.

I think we should all chip in and have these posters placed on billboards, busses, etc.

Ok this reminds me of something I saw once.

It looked like an OLD article out of a new paper or something.

It had two women on it. One was beaten up pretty badly, the other one was in perfect shape.. The caption coming from the non-injuried woman said "I gave my rapist 2 bullets, what did you give yours?"

Great job.

I see you got your new 342PD in there already.

BTW, I hope you get to use those Trojans before they expire in 2005.

Coming from a female, I think it's an excellent poster Oleg! It's the truth, it's reality, and it makes a statement.

I think that the folks who get upset by these images do so for one reason. They have been victimized and these images let them know that they did not have to be a victim. You are showing them a different way to think and they don't like the price they have paid for their ignorance.

People love to blame guns for shooting deaths, but when a death occurs from a car crash they don't blame the car. Try to understand this, I know it is a very simple concept but here in my hometown this girl age 15 with only a learner’s permit took the family car one-day. She only made it half a mile from her house before she was killed. I am sure that the parents of this child were crushed, but I bet they drove immediately after this incident. Because they needed a car everyday they where forced to see their daughter as the one at fault, not the car. They had no choice but to put the blame where it belonged.

When some one sees your posters, they have no choice but to put the blame where it belongs, them selves. Self-defense is a choice. All at once they realize that if they had carried a gun then at the very least they would have had a chance to defend them selves. They don't want to be angry with themselves so they get angry with you.

Oleg, I love your work. Please never stop.

Folks, look at it this way. Imagine you are out walking with your beloved, oh, I don't know....Makarov tucked away. Your Makarov has never failed, so you're feeling pretty good. In fact, you're not really thinking about it at all, just wandering along through the park. You don't even notice that you are entering a more secluded part of the park until two men are barring the path. They grin at you as they slide pipes out of their pant legs. Without warning the one with the biggest grin turns to his right and slams his pipe across the nearest tree trunk. Chips of bark fly everywhere; one hits your forehead just above your left eye, but you don't blink. He is still smiling. His friend takes a step toward you, raising the pipe, and you draw your trusty Makarov and level it center of mass. You can see his smile over the front sight as he hesitates; you can see the tiny change when he decides to come anyway. You pull the trigger without thinking, the hammer snaps down, and you are already swinging to engage the other one when you realize the gun has not fired. The pipe comes down on your paperweight and the next 3 minutes take a long, long time. Neither man ever stops smiling. You will never find out why they attacked you or why they left you alive.

Your gun is later recovered from the ground just off the path where the pipe flung it. When you get it back, you find that the firing pin is broken. Presumably, this is why it failed you when you needed it most.

It is now months later. You have been working hard at physical therapy and can walk pretty well. You can even shoot now, and your handwriting is improving. You decide that it is time to tell your friends at the Firing Line what has happened. You need to tell the story and get it all out so you can move on to something else.

You pour out the story. It takes you only 5 minutes to type out a detailed account of the whole thing. You log off and go to bed, hoping that tomorrow your friends will reply.

The first reply?
"That's what you get when you rely on a cheap piece of Communist crap for self-defense. If you cared about your life, you'd have been carrying a SIG or a Glock. How much money is your life worth?"

I admit that it's not a perfect analogy, but I think this is basically what these women feel. We may be right, but the message they get is that we figure we're much smarter than they are and their rape is their own fault. I don't think that's what anyone means to say, least of all Oleg, but that's what comes across.

As I mentioned, I should have resisted the temptation to bait

Chalk this up to my counterproductive actions.

Captions.....

Oleg, my friend, in finality I must (and usually do) agree with your considered opinion.

I read most of the link on the MS board; saw your "disagreement" with "Sycamore".

The temptation to bait may have been too great, but would have been better left unused.

Now then, about those images......

They're your work; valid images, somewhat consistent with previous efforts.....I am not completely admmiring, however.
E-mail me for critique. The perspective is disturbing.

Don't worry OLEG, look at all that supported you against one. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to convince someone with the " I'm a victim,i'll always be a victim and I like being a victim" attitude. Great posters, dazzle us with more please.

you got it wrong Don...

Don, in your "scenario" the victim took the proper steps to defend herself. There are many people who just walk through life in condition white, unaware and believing that nothing bad will ever happen to them. This poster may put a little scare into them. Maybe it will make them think about being prepared for that type of situation.

I don't believe that Olegs poster demonstrates a lack of compassion for anyone who has been raped. I don't believe in blaming the victim, but I do believe that people should consider all options. If this poster makes someone think about what they'd do if they were in that situation, and convinces them to take responsibility for their own protection, then it has accomplished something positive.

A condom IS NOT effective protection against rape. A well functioning Handgun in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, is.

All your story suggests is that Oleg should replace the Makarov with a revolver in that first picture. I don't think anyone on this forum would respond to someones rape in the manner you described.

Don Gwinn, I would hope that any woman who has survived a rape will recognize that self-defense is up to her. I don't see Oleg's poster as "rubbing it in." Somebody has to shed a little reality on the utopian lovefest the Ms. gang has been promoting.

Good stuff, Oleg. Please keep them churning along.

Its about as persuasive and logical as a Jack Chick tract. Which doesn't surprise me why so many here find it appealing.

Uh, MTAA, care to explain that one?

Oleg, this last poster is alright. But, the comparason between begging a rapist to use a condom and fending him off with a gun is kind of distant. It's not nearly as good as some of your earlier work.

But, that said, I can't believe that people are seeing this poster as anything but a call for more women to defend themselves. Methinks some people are being a bit oversensitive.

My opinion only.

Later,
Chris

I think the critics ARE right

I will re-write the captions.

"Prudent people protect their health"
1)from desease 2)from predators

"Rapists are a social desease, too. Protect youself."

Thanks to those who emailed me other ideas and comments: they are the reason why I post here first.

Oleg,

One copy of these posters is on the fridge at my house. One copy is on the fridge at the house of one of my daughters in law. (she has a 14 year old daughter who's learning how to shoot her mamas Glock) One copy is in the trash, at the home of my other daughter in law. She stated that she doesn't need such stuff, the police will protect her from being raped.

I'm not happy having a potential victim in the family, but we are working on reeducating her.
