Status of Taurus 28 Ga Revolver?
What's the current status of the Taurus 28 ga revolver? I know there was a big flap with the ATF at the Shot Show and was this ever resolved?

Ain't gonna happen. Two words: "destructive device."

yup, ATF said it's a no-go. funny because I've read the second amendment a few times and I don't recall anything about "sporting purposes" and minimum barrel lengths.

Official word from inside the office of the BATFE:
"We simply couldn't bear the onslaught of the negative discussion on all the big gun forums over the release of yet another version of the Taurus Judge and it's inability to fill any role well, so rather than allowing Taurus to release a larger version of this atrocity, we have elected to classify it is a destructive device. As such, it is destructive to the internet gun discussion community at large and has thus been halted."

I still wonder what happened to the sample Taurus was showing at the SHOT Show back in January. Was it confiscated?

It doesn't appear to have been confiscated, but that's just what some random gunblogger said.
In fact, that's the problem. There is no information out there from an authoritative source. All you will find is a mountain of blog entries, most of which say entirely different things. Taurus doesn't have an email address, or I would have contacted them already for an update. I'm still trying to figure out if I care enough to give them a phone call. |

Thease loadings are interesting, cannot wait for a report with penetration results. 1.5 inch diameter hollowpoint when opened. I am sure a .454 casull loading could be hot rodded for plenty of penetration. The 28 gauge judge won't interest me unless they make specific loadings for it (like they did with the regular judge). Seems like these guys would be up to the challenge of developing a great load for it. Can't wait to see what happens in the future. |

Hmmmm, I wonder if the modifications mean some form of shallow rifling?

They already had rifling.

Correct. An unrifled pistol is an AOW.

Never heard of a 28 gauge, but I like it. I'd, might, consider getting one, but....
Cool looking concept though, but we can only dream. I have to take my hat off to Taurus for making such a dream gun. May the 28 gauge live long and prosper in do time. |

Kudos to Taurus for trying & being, or trying to be, innovative.
