Slip on grip covers VS a pair of grips

I am thinking about getting a pair of Hogue grips on my P239, but while looking for bullets at Wal-Mart seen a slip on grip cover from Butler Creek. Obviously it won't be as high quality as a pair of Hogue grips, but how close is it?

I have used slip on covers (Hogue Handall's), and would suggest getting a pair of grips for your gun. The slip on covers do help with grip, but by their very definition are not securely fixed.

There have also been cases where slip on covers ride up and hit mag release buttons.

I used a slip on over a Kahr CM9 because of the checkering of the backstrap. It made the gun a little fatter, and slightly harder to conceal. I would think the Butler Creek's would do the same.

Buy a bicycle innertube. Cut about 2-3" out of it and slide over your grip. Trim to fit with a sharp knife. You can do every gun you own, and probably a buddies guns for less than one Hogue grip and have better grips. They don't add bulk to the guns grip, but do provide a very positive, tacky feel that works great. I have them on most of my handguns as well as the AR's

Not the greatest pic, but one I have. My Glock 20 with innertube grips next to one of my 629's.

Grips like Hogue are great for most gun owners. The slip on Hogue & Pacmyer models can work too. I've never heard of the bike tube method. I have heard of skateboarder tape but I never used it.
If I got a new Glock gen04 I'd add a Hogue slip on. I don't care for the rough or sharp texture frames.

I had a slip on grip on my Ruger p-89. It moved up with recoil so often that I took it off. It was tough to get off and on but it still moved around. If you don't like the factory grip I recommend getting new grips.
