Early one to (no dash) but with the M stamp.

Tight, no endshake, crane shake, cylinder shake, and no dings. Excellent shape.

Yep, I slapped money down on it right away.

Never had a need to get something that big done to a gun, but I just was just looking at one of the other forums where a guy turned a Colt Official Police into a Fitz Special style gun. He used this gunsmith, and the work looked good to me.

Never used them, but Pinnacle Performance is often mentioned as a S&W smith.

I have used Gemini Customs and been very pleased. They do a lot of Ruger work, but I know they work on Smiths as well.

I have recently been thinking of turning my 4" S&W 686 into a round butt. I know it hurts collector value, but it is a gun I will never sell so.....

Bob,

I've done that before myself.

Just get a set of S&W K frame RB factory grips, scribe an outline, TAPE THE SERIAL NUMBERS FOR PROTECTION, and use a grinder or buffer to take away the excess.

Just do it slow, bit by bit, as you cannot put the steel back on, and you will do fine.

If a gun smith does it, it should not cost $50.

I'm cornfused about the wording of the subject.

Examples that make sense to me:
"Awww man, I'm nearly out of ammo..."
"Oh crud, I found a minty 581 but it was tagged at $875..."
"Arrrgh, I think rubbed off some of the bluing on my revolver..."

[Examples that seem conflicting:
"Bummer -- this Model 19 is far too accurate for my needs"
"RATS, I've never owned a Trooper MkV and my buddy wants to be rid of his"
"Aw geeze.. Found a 681 for less than $500"

Just my take.

Ok gang.. I did get it. Went to range and it shot dead on with some old crappy .38 spl. RLN that was so old one of them squibbed! The primers were of the rounded type to.

Ok... I'll get photos this weekend but it has just plain jane standard S&W stocks so no biggie. And shoot some real .38s and .357s to!

I've decided that to make it a 3 incher would cut into the S&W logos stamped on the barrel. So no. I'll leave it as-is and photo it with my 2 1/2 L frame and 3 inch CS-1 U.S. Customs Service L frame.

I'll try to get them all together tomorrow.

Oh, and why the 'Aw geeze'?

Cause I needed the gun like another hole in the head!!! But how could I pass up a good S&W?

Ok, here it is along with my 3 inch U.S. Customs Service and 2 1/2 L frames.

The 2 1/2 incher has Secret Service ebony stocks while the other two have S&W factory (abet fancy ones.)

Smith stainless gun's are fairly easy to round butt. I did one this way. I put a set of round butt factory grips on the gun. Traced the outline with a sharpie. Taped the portion not to be touched. Then with a fairly fine stone on a grinder I ground it down to the markings. Then used the polishing wheel to put a finish on it. (Model 65) Far as three inching the barrel? I'd look for or order a whole new barrel. All can be lost in the reaming and crowning. (This advice from my smithie)

I hereby withdraw my prior look of stern disapproval. That's a fine gun. It's like a meaner 64, which was a great fighting gun in its own right.

Incidentally, every fixed-sight L-Frame I've ever shot had a real liking for 158gr .38 wadcutters above all else.
