I use lots of them. I assume you are talking about the 1 1/2 primers, not the 5 1/2 mag primers.

I follow the recommendation and don't use them in 40 S&W, 357 Sig and 357 Mag of higher pressure loads.

On a couple of revolvers that had high firing pin protrusion, a few cracked in the center. To keep this from happening, I uniformed the pockets and switched to CCI primers. I don't know if the Rems would have cracked again after uniforming, but I didn't want to take a chance on eroding the tip of the firing pin.

I have used them with .38 special and 9 mm. The only problem has been some feeding problems with my primer tubes. At the time they were new and it could easily have been the tubes were needing some primers run through them to clear the problem. As to the way the functioned, no problems found. I have not used them in magnum loads or the mentioned .40/.357 Sig calibers. If you are planning to load them for the calibers I have used them in, I would go ahead. The only primers that have given my problems so far have been with CCI. I had some problems with how hard they are in pistols with light hammer springs.

I've used them when I couldn't get CCI500s. I worked up my loads again and across the chronograph the loads were identical with the CCI primed loads. Same results with their large pistol primers, 2 1/2, in 45 Auto and 45 Colt too. The 1 1/2s have softer cups than the 5 1/2s otherwise they are the same. The 5 1/2 is not a true, hotter magnum primer like H110/296 needs. Remington uses the 1 1/2 for 9mm and 38 Special factory loads but they use the 5 1/2 for 40 and 357. My Blackhawk really puts the hurt on the 1 1/2s when loaded with 357 and Universal so I'm switching to the 5 1/2 for those loads and using the 1 1/2s for 9mm. I haven't used Remingtons for high end magnum loads nor will I. I still have enough CCI550s for those. The last time I shot 9mm I did have one failure to fire with the 1 1/2s though. Three strikes with two guns and no bang. If I could choose between the two I would pick up CCIs but Remingtons are better than nothing and perform just as well when they do go bang. Hopefully that one failure was just a fluke but I've never had that happen with thousands of CCIs.

I use 5 1/2 exclusively for everything from light 38s to hot 357s. I have used thousands and thousands with no trouble of any kind. Last summer, anticipating the problems with supplies we now face, I bought 20,000.

As jepp has pointed out the Rem 1 1/2 primers are not to be used in high pressure rounds like the 40 S&W. 357 Sig and the 357 Mag. As the 40 S&W and the 9MM both run at 35K psi I take Remington's warning to mean the 9MM as well. The Rem 5 1/2 is the correct primer for these high pressure rounds.

I went back to the show on Sunday ...Rem 1 1/2's were still there...but I found 10,000 more CCI small pistol primers for the same price of $45/1,000 ....and then I stopped at my local handgun range later in the day ...and they had a recent inventory of CCI small pistol primers show up as well...and I picked up another 5,000 for $40 with tax...

so I'm set for about 9 months...on small pistol primers / without having to test the Rem 1 1/2's....but I appreciate the quick input.
