Jordan "Border Patrol" holster.

Having gotten bitten by the fast-draw with a double-action revolver bug (for fun), I discovered that there are precious few holsters being made for that purpose, especially for revolvers...most being for autos and concealment. So, since I have the requisite leather-working skills, I set upon making my own. After making a few for various S&W frame sizes, and trying them in the fast-draw role, I decided that a straight up and down holster just did not feel right for fast-draw. Therefore, I set upon making one for my Model 66 with just a slight cant, but not as extreme as the FBI cant. The pictures show the result of my endeavor. The strange angled piece of leather apparent in the back view, is the cover for the sewn-in steel insert that allows the holster to get and hold a bend that holds the holster slightly away from the body, and to stiffen and hold the holster open.

The advantage of doing one's own leather leather is obvious...you can experiment and incorporate the results of the experimentation in the design, along with "steal" (for one's own use), the designs from other makers.
Note: I use my Jordan-style holsters with a Sam Browne belt complete with a double braces (I made the braces, but not the belt...I bought the belt for much less than I could have made it). The Sam Browne rig is how Jordan carried and used his holsters.

retention?....

That's a nice leather rig but I'm not sure if it could; "ride the river"

Weapon security, horseback & dirt bikes/ATVs look like they'd be a big problem for the rig.

FWIW: At my first duty station as a lower enlisted MP I was issued a Bianchi "Border Patrol" leather holster for my 1911a1 .45acp sidearm.

The key words being, "fast-draw" and "for fun"...not for carry. The holster was constructed for that exact purpose. Therefore, I did not need or put a retention strap on it like the original Jordan holsters (note: Although Jordan holsters had a retention strap, he maintained that it should be left un-fastened unless some activity was anticipated that could shake the the gun from the holster.). However, if I really needed one, which is doubtful, since I cannot see myself open carrying with a Sam Browne rig, I could add one without too much trouble, but fast-drawing at my backyard range, or walking around in my woods, I do not see the need.

?!! I will be seventy on July 3 of this year...the only thing I "ride" is my recliner! And, I have never needed a retention strap for my gun doing that. I a make a holster for someone else (unlikely), and they wanted a retention strap (if a person absolutely needs one, I like "thumb breaks", and can do that.)

Nice holster. Didn't the Jordan have a retention snap?
