yes, you can do the opposite. just be sure of the regs of the state/area you are hunting in. some places allow no more than 3 shells in the shotgun. 1 in the chamber and 2 in the mag. so even with the mag extension you would have to plug the mag. with something long enough to make it hold no more that 3 shells total. or even easier don't use the mag extension. the 870 combo comes 2 ways in 12 ga. and 1 way in 20 ga. and the combo is an express model only too. you can get a 12 ga. wingmaster with a 26" or 28" vent rib barrel and buy a loose barrel with or without rifle type sights smooth or rifled bore, with/without scope mount. fixed choke/rem. choke.

the older model 870 (made before 1986) i think
don't have the silly plastic mag. spring retainer. you can simply screw a mag. extension right on. using a longer spring for it of course.
