Howa .223's are 1:12 twist, so if you want to shoot heavier .223 SMK's, the Remington would get the nod in my book. That being said, I have a .308 Howa 1500 Varminter Supreme with a Boyds Ross thumbhole stock. With FGMM 168gr it will shoot .6" 5 shot groups at 100 yards. If you decide to go with a .308, check CDNN, they have Howa 1500's for $399.
