Personally I think it has some merit, but I can also think of potential issues.
I’m not sure if you have a whole house security system or not, but that would be where I would probably invest my money. For instance wireless monitoring, video, fire/water/freeze alarms etc. are now pretty common options for security systems.
Now, if your goal is to monitor family/friends that might have access or simply as a redundant system to compliment the main security system I suppose it’s something to consider.
