Hammer Cam

The cam in my ASM .357 single action was getting worn. I turned one out of a piece of O-1 drill rod, heated it with a butane torch to a bright red-orange color, let it stay for 10-15 seconds to even out then quenched it in 30W motor oil and drew it in melted lead for an hour, then ground the cam shape on it and tapped it in. Just did it last week. I have no way to test the hardness, but if it doesn't hold up, I'll let you know. Works O. K. for now. Got the drill rod at Fastenal for about $5.00 for a 1/4 x36 inch rod. L.
