In fairness, much com block ammo is steel core and will damage steel plates. There is even a chance of a ricochet.
My local indoor range finally had to ban the guns, not specific ammo, because of someone sneaking in offending ammo in range bag. These are legitmate concern. Folks got mad, but it was because of a few bad apples. I saw the pocked backstops
