Don't confuse the SXP with the 1300. The 1300 was a decent gun, but a step below the 870. The SXP is similar in design to the older 1300, but made in Turkey by an unknown manufacturer and stamped with the Winchester name.

At anywhere near the same price I'd not even consider the SXP over an 870. It might someday prove to be a decent gun, but the 870 has already proven itself.

I understand that many recent 870 Express guns have left the factory less than perfect. But the design is solid and proven, the issues are all minor, mostly cosmetic, and are easily corrected. Remington could build a better gun, but with consumers and big box stores demanding the lowest price possible you are going to get a few out the door with issues. Those issues could, and should be made right before they leave the factroy, but we as consumers are either going to have to pay for them. Either when we buy the gun, or when we fix them ourselves.
