Heaviest I went on my Alaskan before I sold it was 325grain Corbon factory loads.
I had no chronograph at the time so I can't say the muzzle velocity.


It was not painful, but it was quite violent, but then, I think the heavier rounds are less snappy? Or is that a moot point on big bore magnums? Either way it is not something that *I* could easily "manage", if by manage you mean put 6 shots into a bear moving towards you in a hurry. But it sure beats a stick! Probably just need to connect with one of them to save yourself.

If you got some popeye forearms you're probably alright. I've got very average arms but a tight grip.
