Have you ever seen M. Night Shyamalan's movie, "the Village"? Very high signal to noise ratio, maintained in that environment. Other parallels, i.e., "those we don't speak of", may stimulate thought.
I'm not trying to throw stones, you've obviously spent a lot of effort, dictated solutions, and are quite happy with the results.
