I hunt the same type of terrain but could take shots up to 40 yards (my limit with my 586). I have used two different loads. One being a 158 grain gold dot hollow point over max for my gun charges of 2400 or H110. The other load that I am using now, thanks to WESHOOT is the Hornady 180 grain XTP-JHP over max charge of H110. Both shoot well and are more than enough for the typical deer that I see. I also carry a 20 gauge with slugs for the 200+ pound monsters that show themselves every once in a while.
