The way I see it, from a
legal standpoint, deadly force is out of the question as is assault. However, if it falls within the law that force can be applied to prevent him from leaving, just lean on the door and wait the half hour for the cops.
(Worst case scenario is he loses a leg or his foot due to loss of circulation to his extremity at which point he probably could sue you and win... :barf
