Academia requires complete compliance to their rules
The days where free thinking and tolerance are long gone. My school allows free speech only in a certain area, with strict guidelines on decibel level, number of participants, etc. etc.
they would rather the young woman was raped and murdered rather than give up their right to control the student body. Even a huge settlement by the victim's heirs will not change their attitude. A court order would. But they'd still do this utmost to discourage armed resistance in this type of situation.
