Uh oh. Now all the 1400 owners are going to tell us how great it was. No doubt there are some happy owners, but that was not the gun to end Winchester's semi auto woes. When I was in my teens they opened a Winchester range in my hometown, and they rented and sold Winchesters. They used to send 1200s and 1400s with issues back by the barrel full. Seriously, they had a 55 gallon drum lined with cardboard they would stack them in until they got enough to pack up and ship, which wasn't too long.
I only ever owned one that I considered junk; my first. A Mossberg bolt action 20 gauge with the adjustable choke. The source of my enduring hatred of bolt actions and adjustable chokes. It did cure my desire to go cheap at an early age.
