I might as well mention it before someone else does.
It's a magazine, (or mag), not a clip.

Did you disassemble and clean the rifle before shooting it?
If not, you really should as there may be oil and other gunk in there from the refinishing process or sometimes on for storage and shipping.

Before shooting anymore, I'd recommend complete disassembly and thorough cleaning.
