And now for something COMPLETELY different

A bear-defense gun.

Over-under pistol chambered for 500 S&W.

If you can't hit a bear within DLP distance with two shots...well that's all you usually get.

It would be light enough and flat and compact enough that even with a 6" barrel it would be packable. Recoil is not going to be an issue. You won't feel it, or care.

I expect it could be marketed for a whole lot less than S&W's revolver.

(Because of the Aurora shooting incident, I feel compelled to mention that a 450 grain bullet trundling along at 1,000 fps (which is mild for the 500S&W) would cause at least some discomfort to a person wearing soft body armor.) When I taught my friend to reload, we loaded up some 325 grain slugs over Trail Boss powder for instructional purposes. They would be dandy home defense loads. Out of that heavy revolver, they recoil like a 22, but those 325s clocked at 800 fps out of the 4" barrel. Would hit like a 45, for sure.
