There was a urban legend many years ago where we were under the belief that it was illegal to kill a Porky or a Spruce Grouse because they were critters one could take if in a survival situation without a gun (like a stick).
Also we were in the belief that a salt lick was illegal and Conservation officers knew everyone (almost), believed that and kept quiet about it until they proposed to make all baiting except salt licks illegal.
