Well, OC, taking the carrier lever off and reassembling it fixed it. The problem was that the pin was not fully engaged at the top of its channel. Pushing it back in all the way makes the lever sit right. The real problem is that it is missing the hairpin clip so the pin was working itself loose. So I will need to get one before shooting the gun again.
This is much easier than shipping it back and forth!
