Several years ago, I wanted another .357 mag revolver, so I started doing my "homework". I read every published article that I could, and finally chose a model 686.

One of the gun publications did some comparison testing of various .357 mag revolvers, including the Colt Python, Dan Wesson and Ruger products. The overall winner was the S&W model 686 (586 is the blued version). I don't recall all of the facets that were compared, but the one that stuck out the most was "out-of-box" accuracy, which the model 686 scored the best of them all! It also scored many #2 spots in the other categories, with the cumulative score tipping the scale for the 686.
