in overall length to speak of. Check overall length, 20" barrel vs 18" barrel less receiver. Then of course you have but two shots, and no cool RACKING tune *chuckle* I thought about it but personally I like having more rounds available to me, the idea of firing a around up in the air (depending on the circumstances of course!) appeals to me in a "holds a lot" type gun. I think you'd be well defended with either, I think it depends on what one expects as relates to possible trouble and what one is more comfortable with. I'm sure more in here that are more qualified to answer your question, will. While I opted for a pump action home defense model, I wouldn't feel under powered with a double barrel 12 gauge, unless wide spread looting or riots were in the picture. I do go a lot for simplicity, simplicity of design, simplicity of my choices to operate, so in some respects a double barrel may have an advantage here.
