I hear a lot of good about vortex and the Bushnell elite 4200 and 6500. I've never owned either though.

Nikon makes decent scopes, but they are far from great.

Leupold VX3 is nice and a lot of hunters swear by it, though I believe that half of their price is for name alone.

I can hunt by the moonlight with my Zeiss conquest and consider it the best scope for the money if you can find a 3-9x40.

Swarovski is an amazing scope and an effective way to reduce a large bank account.
