Unfortunately it happens. I bought a Nikon Monarch after last hunting season, installed it on my TC Prohunter, zeroed the rifle and put it in the safe. Pulled the rifle out this year and checked zero and the rifle wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Called Nikon, sent them the scope, and a week later had a brand new replacement in hand. It sucks to get a bad apple, but good customer service makes you feel better.
