At those lower velocities, look at Veral Smith's old work with flat meplat cast bullets. They will likely get you a better blood channel. You will definitely kill deer.
If the full-power loads bruise you up, consider trying a PAST magnum recoil pad on the shoulder and see if you get any more comfortable? I use them with short stock guns just to get the rear sight a little farther from my face, but they take down felt recoil effectively, too.
