I don't know a whole lot about the Chinese ones, but one thing to look for is the bolt/firing pin. If the firing pin is corroded bad enough to stick in fire position, it'll go full auto on ya. Not a common problem, but I saw it once. A friend of mine brought his out to the range to fire it for the first time and inadvertently emptied the magazine. Fortunately he had the presence of mind to keep it pointed downrange til it stopped. Imagine if he dropped it and ran like a little girl!

Of course the range employees were quite excited for a while there, and asked us to vacate the premises forthwith.

But, I still think the SKS is a great rifle for the money.
