I'd use any kind of vaccuum I happened to have, but if it has a beater bar, I'd disable it beforehand just in case you dredge up an old primer dropped in the carpet long ago.
You can dump the powder on your lawn or in your garden. It's supposed to be good for your plants. Wet it down if it will make you fell better. Your grass will love it.
