I'll drop my 2ยข in the plate for the Maverick 88, but I've never shot a Mossberg.
My younger brother bought the 88 several years ago and soon after decided it was just too long for him (not sure exact length, but the looong barrel that this particular one came with... along with the buttpad on the stock added up to a length that always got caught on his clothes and felt odd to him.) At 6'3", I'm a larger frame guy than he and it fits me perfectly. In fact I've shot alot of shotguns and the 88 is by far the best performing clay/bird slayer for me, personally. Fits like a glove, and I definitely don't mind it being a little more rugged and lightweight because of the corners that were cut in manufacturing. Just my opinions, of course... but it works for me.
