I sell and service knives, so I can buy and carry anything I want.
In handling literally hundreds of knives over the years, the best one I have seen/used is the Emerson HD-7. Plain edge, no serrations.
As for a firearm, that depends on where I am, what I am carrying as a case or day-planner and the events expected. For me, it's more a question of ammo.
I like Gold-Dots in my defense firearms. The idea of a core and jacket that will not seperate is a superior design.
