A few years ago I ran a little experiment. I deprimed, cleaned, sized, then resized a bunch of .223 brass. Then sorted it into 2 piles, one with clean flash holes, one with walnut bits stuck in there.
I primed and loaded the brass, then went shooting. As far as I could tell, there was no difference in accuracy or POI with walnut or without. The primer flash apparently blows through walnut like it isn't there.
Now I don't bother checking or clearing the mediums.
