Wow. No one for the mini!

I know if I get a mini-14. I will get a mini-30. If I get a mini-30 I will want another rifle still as 7.62 x 39 is a non-standard US cartridge (unlike 223 and 308).

If I get the M1A I dont feel like I will want or "need" a mini or maybe I can get a mini-14 and mini-30 years from now.

Am I right in wanting the Scout Squad over the SOCOM 16? I like how handy the SOCOM 16 is but with the scout squad I get 2 more inches of barrel and it is only slightly heavier and less handy. That fat front sight on the SOCOM I don't care for but I do like the larger rear sight. What kind of range should I expect out of a Scout Squad vs a SOCOM 16?
