Spats is a lawyer, as am I, and Spats has given you excellent advice.

When it comes to an actual, serious, real life legal issue, the right thing to do is hire a qualified lawyer. It's bad idea to discuss serious, personal legal issues with a bunch of strangers in public, like on the Internet. Among other things, what you discuss with your lawyer is confidential. What goes on on the Internet is not.

Also, in a real life situation it's usually not just a matter of what the statutes say. It's also a matter of what the courts have said, how the law has been applied by regulatory agencies and how the law is likely to be applies to your fact situation.

Suit yourself, but a misstep can have some seriously undesirable consequences.
