Not been terribly pleased with wallyworld. I am almost certain they don't take guns back and have that policy posted. They will sometimes take it back and ship it to the manufacturer for repair, but only in rare cases. And if the torn up stock was too bad, you should have noticed the gouged wood (always ask to see the gun before they box it up).
But, I haven't had a great experience at Galyans either. Was buying a rifle for my little brother's birthday once (happened to be a 10/22 as well. came with scope, paid ~$170.00). I spent about 15 minutes educating the man behind the counter on age limits (I was 18 at the time and therefore fully able to purchase long guns, but he thought I had to be 21 to even look at a rifle). When I finally got ready to fill out the paperwork I handed him my concealed handgun permit to bypass the NICS check. He gave me a funny look and said something about how it was stupid for 18 year olds to be able to carry a handgun and that they shouldn't be able to carry a gun until they were 21.
I should have left then.
