IMHO, 4 inch is the ABSOLUTE minimum. Six inch is far better. I carry six inch, and 7 1/2 inch barrel revolvers in shoulder holsters, and find them MORE comfortable, and easier to conceal than a 4 inch in a "cowboy" holster.
