Like I said in an earlier post,
it's not the friction of the bullets that erodes the barrel. There's just as much bullet friction at the muzzle as there is at the throat of the chamber, yet it's always the throat of a barrel that wears out first. That's where the powder burns.
If a muzzle does wear out, it's usually caused by cleaning rod abrasion.
