G17 and G26 magazines are NOT interchangeable - a G17 will fit in a G26, but not the other way around

That being said, if I already had a G17, then I would get the G26 - (I have and did exactly that)

The manual of arms is the same, the trigger, safeties, etc. are exactly the same; and if you like the 17, the 26, IMO, becomes a no-brainer
