I had a 243 which I found to be extremely accurate and effective on everything from gophers to large Missouri white tail.
My Buddy had a 7mm08 built on an argentine Mauser by a gentleman named List. It was extremely accurate and effective on coyotes up to Elk and bear.
As much as I hate to say it, if you are limited to one rifle I would forgo my beloved 243 for the 7mm08
