lots of people use 1911 pattern 40sw they get the chamber reamed to load it long and use fast burning powders for easy recoil. 40sw brass is cheaper than 10mm though they dont load to 10mm levels nor would it be good to do.

if you go 40sw or 357sig youll want a ramped barrel

1911 in 9mm only holds 9-10rnds not much more than 40sw/10mm or 45acp.

some people like to shoot 9mm Major and 38super in 1911 pattern guns.
pressure they hit can be rifle like.

357sig has its place in competition its narrow.
